Don’t have a lot of time for working out?  Then you should definitely try a High Intensity Interval Training, or HIIT (for short) workout. With just a few simple moves, you can get a full body workout and tone your toughest areas like stubborn belly fat. HIIT is a style of working out that combines moves and combinations that you may already be familiar with, for example lounges, squats and jumping jacks. Check out the benefits of HIIT below and then check out my beginner HIIT workout  that will have you burning calories and toning in no time!

How does HIIT work?

HIIT is designed to provide an intense workout through short bursts of intense movement, followed by even shorter rest periods, sometimes called active recovery. The overall benefit of HIIT workouts is the ability to make your heart rate rise quickly and stay fairly high, even during rest periods. This helps you to burn fat quickly, and have more efficient, shorter workouts. How much more efficient? It’s been proven that some 10-minute HIIT workouts can actually burn more calories than a full 30 minutes on a treadmill.

Burn Fat Quickly

HIIT helps you burn fat quickly and also helps you burn fat, even when you’re finished working out. How great does that sound? Yes, you’ll burn a lot of calories during your workout, but the intensity that comes from HIIT workouts causes your body to work harder to repair muscles, etc. So, since it’s essentially in ‘repair mode,’ you’ll continue to burn extra calories for about 24-hours after your workout!

Boosts Your Metabolism

HIIT also boosts your metabolism, because you’re not only losing fat, you’re keeping (and even gaining) new muscle. Muscle burns more calories in your body, so with a revved up metabolism, and more muscle to burn off the fat, HIIT workouts benefit your body long after your workout is complete.

Healthy Heart

Heart health is another major benefit when it comes to HIIT. Because you’re keeping your heart rate up for longer periods of time, you’re actually training that muscle just as much as any other muscles, increasing your stamina, and making your heart stronger.

One of the greatest parts about starting a HIIT workout is that you can do it pretty much anywhere, and you typically don’t need any extra equipment. Once you’ve tried HIIT for the first time, there’s a good chance you’ll never want to go back to the treadmill!
